The time has finally come, vagabonds. The book is off to the printer, which means we have a bunch of final PDFs for you. And not just the PDFs! The files sent to you will be through DrivethruRPG so they’ll live forever in your games library!
In your digital rewards, you'll find a DrivethruRPG link. Please make sure you are logged into DTRPG first, then click the link. It will automatically add the book to your cart for free. Just check out and it’s yours! Once you check out, the game will be added to your game library and the files will be immediately available for you to download.

Cockamamie cats, vagabonds! We have some exciting news! Both the new book and Clearing Booklet 3 are now available for backers in preview!
Ruins & Expeditions Preview
It’s finally here! We’ve included a preview of the entire book for you to look through!
After releasing a number of the chapters for early review, this newest version is the FULL book, including all of the new rules for ruins, three completely new clearings, and revised versions of all of the chapters. Your notes were amazingly helpful. Thank you!
In addition to Chapter 5 (Ruins & Relics) and the new clearings, this preview also includes all of the playbooks with their full writeups in Chapter 4. Please take a close look at those—if something hasn’t been answered or addressed in that section, we’d love to hear about it.

Monsters Preview!

Bucolic bluejays, vagabonds! The searing heat of summer has set the woodland ablaze! Beware of monsters! They’re everywhere!
Join us at Gen Con
We’ll be at Gen Con starting on Thursday! If you’re attending, come say hi, play a game, and take in a panel at the 3rd floor of the Hyatt Regency! We have almost 700 events happening during the weekend, including a Root multi-table event, a GMing Root Q&A session, demos of our upcoming game Airlock, and a special announcement on Thursday at the Magpie Showcase!
Project Update
Some very exciting news! We’ve managed to get all of the accessories for the game, like dice, into sampling. This means we’re seeing samples and making changes to ensure that you get the best produce available that looks amazing. The biggest hurdle was ensuring the dice mold looked fabulous, but in happy news, that’s done! We should be able to start sharing some previews soon!
Otherwise, the book is very close to being done. We have one final chapter to finish fully developing and writing. Layout is already complete for this part of the book, so it’s just making sure the text fits in the space provided and tells you everything you need to know about ruins.
Once we have the ruins chapter complete, and have the book in a preview layout, we’ll be able to send out a preview file!

Felonious foxes, vagabonds! It’s the spring season and we’re excited to be popping up with some great updates for you! Let’s dive in!
Project Update
We have a few exciting updates to report! First, all the accessories are submitted for samples. Our partners will send us some very fancy samples and we will work with them to make those perfect. This process can take awhile, but it has begun and we’re super stoked!
The clearing books are almost done and so is the Ruins & Expedition book as well. Right now we're chugging through the layout to get it done. Once it’s in layout, and gone through a few rounds of edits and approvals, we’ll be able to send out a preview. That could still take several weeks or even a month or two, but we’re clawing ever closer to letting you see the books!
Chapter One Preview & Final Playbooks
We are very excited to bring you a preview of Chapter One Ruins & Expeditions! We’ve also released the final playbooks for you to add to your game!
- Chapter 1 formally adds the Hundreds and the Keepers in Iron to the Woodland, including a full description of each faction, rules for adding them to the simple faction roll from the Root core book, and the full rules for adding them to the faction phase as well.
- The final playbooks include all playtesting feedback, including notes and ideas sent in by backers. Thank you so much for all your feedback on these new playbooks!

Project Update
As you can see from these shiny preview chapters, things are moving! We’re working hard to wrap up final writing, move through editing, and get chapters into layout! We’re happy to report that we’ve finished two chapters for your enjoyment!
Chapters 2 & 3 and Monster Preview
We are very excited to bring you a preview of two chapters of Ruins & Expeditions—Chapter 2: New Moves & Skills and Chapter 3: New Equipment. There’s also a fearsome monster for you to check out—the Giant Trout!
- Chapter 2 adds a plethora of new weapon skills, Reputation moves, Drives, Natures, and more. Everything you find in this chapter can be added to your Root RPG campaign right now, including the new species moves and abilities for Badgers and Rats!
- Chapter 3 expands on the existing equipment rules with new tags (positive and negative) and a bunch of new premade gear, all of which you can use right away too!
- The Giant Trout preview is our first monster release, and it shows off both what this individual monster can do and what the broader monster template looks like for the other monsters!
